Cold Case: Where Are They Now?

CC_Titles_16 Regular readers might be questioning the need for a ‘where are they now?’ post as I already have the monthly Cold Case Cast Catch-up. And you’d be right. This is not about the cast.

There has been a lot of coverage recently of the San Diego Comic-Con event, even working its way over from more nerdy end of the blogosphere into the mainstream media. No longer are the ‘Cons’ just about the niche entertainment genres. As the Marvel and DC universes take over TV and movies and everyone plays computer games (yes you do!).

Seeing news about the various discussion panels, where cast members introduce new productions, got me thinking about the fact that Cold Case and its fans missed out on all that during its seven years.

So, if Cold Case did come back for an event series (as I made up in last year’s April Fool post) seven years on what would the characters be doing now? How would they bring them together for another case? What would that case be?

7 Year Itch

“What blonde in the kitchen?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know! Maybe it’s Marilyn Monroe!”

When Tom asks that question and Richard answers in The Seven Year Itch they are talking about Marilyn Monroe and not Marguerite Chapman’s character. But it has been seven years since our Miss Morris was seen in the Philly P.D. squad room kitchen.

The 2nd of May is one of the days we note each year because in 2010 it was when Cold Case‘s final episodes were broadcast. That Sunday night showing of two episodes closed off the seven-season long run the show had.

Throughout that time we saw hundreds of guest stars. Some well known already. Many yet to become household names. Even now if I sort of recognise an actor I’ll check if they ever appeared in a episode, perhaps as a minor character in a flashback to the 1950s.

Of course, the main cast (Kathryn, Danny, John, Jeremy, Thom, and Tracie) have all gone on to do many things since. We try to keep abreast of them here on KM UK in our Cold Case Cast Catch-up posts. However, the way Cold Case wormed its way into the hearts of so many people means they will be very closely associated with it for many, many years to come.

Here’s to the much missed Cold Case.

Cold Case Japan Débuts

They’re all there: Will, John, Lilly, Nick, Scotty, file boxes. But some how they look different.

The locally created Japanese version of Cold Case premièred today (22nd October 2016). Or was it yesterday? At the time of writing it is very late in the day in Tokyo. Is it now? It all makes my head ow. Speaking of which the show is being broadcast on the WOWOW TV network in Japan, the home of the American version there too.

The news of this local version being in the works broke back in April, at the time it was said that 10 episodes had been commissioned. From looking at the WOWOW website (even though I cannot read Japanese) it looks like that is still the case.

Cold Case Japan is set in the Kanagawa Prefecture. This is south of Tokyo and has a mix of topography from major cities like the capital Yokohama, to more mountainous regions, and ancient areas. The large bay and the fact that Yokohama is such a major port for the country makes it a good replacement for Philadelphia. The Prefecture gives a lot of scope for vary varied stories across all aspects of Japanese life now and, as is so important to the show, the past. The theme music is based on “Nara” by E.S. Posthumus too.

Yō Yoshida leads the cast as ‘Yuri Ishikawa’. In a lovely nod to the original ‘Yuri’ translates as Lily. ‘Ishikawa’ apparently is a combination of the words ‘stone’ and ‘river’ or ‘stream’. That sounds like Lilly Rush: a stone, with hidden undercurrents.

Cold Case Is 13 (and 1/365th)

For the second year running I’m a day late with this. You really must point out these mistakes to me or I’ll never learn

Yes, it was 13 years ago yesterday (28th September 2016) that Cold Case first hit the television screens of our American cousins. The CBS ‘procedural’ started on that Sunday night with the episode “Look Again” and was followed by 155 more across seven seasons.

TV has moved on, the super heroes have made a come back for a start, and the stars of Cold Case have moved on. More on that tomorrow.

We miss you.

Like They Needed To Ask…

The TV Series Finale website is asking the question that those of us on this website already know the answer to.

Who’s the Sexiest Female Cop or Detective on TV?

We’re surprised it even needed to ask.

And that’s just 3 images from the Cold Case promos for season 2, 4 and 6 respectively. I don’t even need to pull out the BIG GUNS! There’s lots of other great examples in the KM UK Gallery.

In the piece they refer to Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), and a real blast from the past Heather Locklear from (remember this?) T.J. Hooker. It was a nice touch to list these lovely women but they let slip the real truth behind the article by finally casually dropping in Kathryn.
