Self Illustrating

banner_025_697x317_kareen_t

Just thought I’d throw this out there to help with all the isolating (self- or otherwise) and lockdowns that are happening around the world at the moment.  It is a difficult time for a lot of people.

What about filling some of your spare time, or keep the kids busy for a while, with some fan art creation?

The KM UK Gallery has thousands of event photos, promo photos, posters and screencaps available to you for use in your own compositions.  Obviously Kathryn is the main focus but Cold Case in general features a huge amount.  I hear that rainbows are being used a lot of add colour to our lives.  If you need any help finding something then please contact me and I will do what I can.

In the years I’ve been running this site I’ve learnt that many of you are very talented artists.  We’ve showcased many pieces of work generously donated by you in the Fan Art section of the Gallery.  There are well over 700 items there already.  Wallpapers, banners, avatars, drawings, and even videos feature.  The lovely banner above by Kareen T is a randomly selected example to illustrate this post.

Of course, if you do create something it would be great to share them with the world on our little corner of the Internet.

Pin A Label On The Dress

Cold_Case_S07E15_lilly_266An original element of Cold Case‘s USP was that Lilly Rush (Kathryn, obviously) was always dressed quite simply and her hair style was very matter-of-fact.  Unlike in many similar shows Lilly was a cop first and foremost and not a catwalk model with a completely different outfit in every scene.  She didn’t want to spend hours in front of a mirror every day only to be stuck in the interrogation room (which ironically had a massive two-way mirror in it) or chasing down suspects all over Philly.  However, the hairdo became the focus of much discussion despite being designed not to be.

This trait of Lilly’s was carried over into her personal life as we saw in the episode Revolution (S02E14) when the two Rush sisters met for dinner and Lilly was wearing what could well have been her prom dress.  It was not a good look: a red thing with boxy shoulders.  We were left to imagine Lilly getting ready for that meal and realising that she had nothing to wear other than her regular work suits.

But, much like many a possible on-going story line this thread was dropped when it came to the Two Weddings (S07E15) episode of the show.  It opened with the shot of a stocking, high-heel-wearing pair of legs stepping across a threshold.  Two everyone’s surprise, as the camera panned up we saw it was the dressed-to-the-nines, looking like a million dollars Lilly!  Yowza!  (Eyes out on stalks emoji!)

Lilly and co. were attending the wedding of their colleague Louie and our leading lady had clearly spent her years of unused wardrobe budget in one hit on the shoes, dress and coat.

still_002Why I am telling you all this?  Well, because visitor to this site Susana recently asked about the dress.  The question reminded me that despite much discussion at the time we never found out if it could be attributed to a particular designer or brand.  Plus, it was nice to revisit this episode again.

still_003A few months after Two Weddings aired in the US Kathryn attended a charity event in which she modelled a ‘Tresor de Vintage’ dress which had some similarities.  It was green and knee length.  That’s always had me wondering if the Two Weddings dress was from the same stable.  As an aside Kathryn’s Colony co-star Sarah Wayne Callies was also there that day.

So, my question is can you put a name to the dress?

As a sweetener I’ve added a couple more stills from the episode to The Gallery.

Advent-your-ous Thinking

advent_calendar_430x180As seems to be the usual way of things Xmas is rapidly approaching and I’ve been caught napping (sometimes literally :-) ).

One of KM UK’s traditions for the upcoming season is a sort of Advent calendar.  It exists as an extra album in the KM UK Photo Gallery.  Each day of the month (if I remember!) an image is revealed.

I could just pick random images of Kathryn but I like to have a theme to work to each year.  In the past I’ve gone with different hair style Kathryn’s sported, on set photos, motherhood, and smiles.

Do you have an idea for a theme for KM UK’s Advent Calendar for 2015?

The idea needs to one that can be illustrated with 25 images of Kathryn that can be found in the KM UK Gallery. Leave your thoughts in the comments below or contact me using the Contact Form.

Artistic Anniversary?

As I am sure many of you are aware Kathryn’s birthday is rapidly approaching.  Actually it is approaching at the same speed each does, but you know what I mean.

As is traditional the day is the 28th of January.  What’s also become a tradition, albeit a slight newer one, is me asking:  Anyone up for some birthday-themed fan art to mark the occasion?

You’ll have the dubious honour of having your work hosted in the KM UK Gallery and the best featured here on the main site.  Does it get any better than that?  :-)

Contact me via the usual means if you want to send me some pics.

Thank you.

Advent Horizon

advent_calendar_430x180Consider the following:

  • It’s nearly November.
  • The evenings suddenly got darker due to the clocks going back an hour (the switch from British Summer Time to GMT).
  • Mince pies are being sold in the supermarkets.
  • Tree lights have started appearing in the front gardens of home across the UK.

All this can mean only one thing:  Xmas is frighteningly close.

Personally I think there should be a ban on such things until December the 1st, but it keeps happening earlier and earlier as the years go by.  Give it a couple more decades and we’ll seeing TV adverts with added sleigh bell sound effects in July.  Bah Humbug!  :-)

However, needs must.  In the few short years KM UK has existed we’ve managed to introduce several traditions.  One those much anticipated annual events is the KM UK advent calendar.  Each December a set of themed Kathryn-related images are unveiled, one per day, from behind the ‘doors’.  Our inaugural 2009 calendar was based around our favourite lady’s smiles.  In 2010 in was ‘The Many Faces Of… Lilly Rush’.  Next up was different hair styles we’ve seen Kathryn sport.  For 2012 we focused on photos of Kathryn taken on the set of films or TV shows.  And last year, after the birth of her twin boys, the theme was motherhood, in real-life or her on-screen work.

This year I’d like to ask you if you can suggest a theme for KM UK’s Advent Calendar for 2014?

The idea needs to one that can be illustrated with 25 images of Kathryn that can be found in the KM UK Gallery.  Leave your thoughts in the comments below or contact me using the Contact Form.
