Cold Case Cast Catch-up – January 2014

tracie_thoms_001_430x180It’s only January and we’re already catching up with the work of the other Cold Case cast members in KM UK’s regular segment I call the CCCC-up.

Lady fighting movie Raze; which stars Zoë Bell (stunt woman on the likes of Grind House), Rachel Nichols (Alias), Sherilyn Fenn (Boxing Helena), and Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC); was released in some theatres and on VOD services (Amazon and iTunes for example) in the USA back on the 10th of January.  It may be available in other territories as well.  As far as I can tell the UK is not one of them.  Amazon UK is showing a DVD release planned for mid-June 2014.  Directed by Josh C. Waller (McCanick), and also starring Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Rosario Dawson (Sin City), is about a group of kidnapped women forced to fight each other to the death in order to save their families members.   Even in that small collection of names there are lots of links.  Rachel was in Resurrecting The Champ with Kathryn.  She is also in McCanick by Josh and with Tracie.  Rosario was in Rent with Tracie.  It’s not what you know… :-)  As reported previously, depending on where you are in the world McCanick (Cory Monteith of Glee‘s last work) is either out already on DVD/VOD, or months away.  Germany gets a DVD première February.  Already on VOD in the USA, the DVD is due in May.  When did these things get so complex?

New news from Tracie is that she has been working on a new E! network pilot for a show called Songbyrd (yes, that’s the correct spelling).  Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill) is Lauren Byrd (see!), a very successful songwriter with personal issues.  The creatives behind the show include the makers of Smash and Chicago, and singer/songwriter Diane Warren.  Just last week Tracie was in New York filming the pilot.  E! is expanding its output to include more scripted dramas and this is one vying for a slot.  Rumer Willis (90210, daughter of Bruce and Demi) co-stars with Josh Kelly (long running soap One Life To Live) and Robert Hoffman (Step Up 2: The Streets).

An Bronntanas is a 5 part drama series for the Irish broadcaster TG4.  As reported last year the show stars John Finn (John Stillman in CC) and was due to première on the 28th of January.  I can’t find any evidence that it actually did though.  IMDb’s listing for the show is a bit of mess regarding dates.  The five episodes become 7 across multiple seasons.  An Bronntanas is all in Gaelic which John knows fluently.  He got to show it some years ago in a Cold Case promotional video for the TG4 network.  A small copy of the video, also starring Kathryn and an actor from the Irish drama series Ros na Rún, can be found in theCold_Case_Ros_Na_Run_Irish_promo Gallery.  Watch until the very end for the punchline from Nick.  Looking at John’s IMDb page you may be interested in the entry for a film called The Gift.  Intriguingly it is directed by the director of An Bronntanas, Tom Collins.  The obvious conclusion is that John agreed to star in a film whilst he was in Ireland.  I’ve looked into this further and can state, the Gaelic speakers and those with good memories will be ahead of me on this one, The Gift is An Bronntanas.  The name translates as that.  Quite why it has appeared as a separate movie I don’t know.  Maybe the plan is to cut it as one for some markets.  If you know anything more about An Bronntanas please let us know in the comments below or to me directly via the Contact Us form.

The long running drama over the new NBC drama series Believe (from the man behind the massive hit movie Gravity, Alfonso Cuarón) is due to come to an end in March, at least until the critics get their knives out whilst pouring over the ratings.  The series is due to gets it’s US TV première in a special preview on the 10th (a Monday) before taking its proper time slot the following Sunday (16th March).  John Finn is down as appearing in one episode as CIA Deputy Director Randall Comstock.  IMDb has it as episode 2 of the 8 currently listed.

Veena Sud‘s American version of The Killing, the show that ironically just won’t die, returns for a 6-part fourth and probably final season on Netflix later this year.  Veena was a writer and producer on CC.  In casting news Joan Allen (the Bourne trilogy) will be starring as the head of a military academy for boys which finds itself entangled in the murder case.  Murder a military academy?  Why does that sound familiar?  coughThe Plancough and coughThe Long Blue Line/Into The Bluecough.  Sorry, I must get that looked at.  Anyway, we can double link this new to Kathryn because as well as Veena’s obvious involvement in CC, Joan was the lead in The Contender.  Kathryn’s role in that as an FBI investigator played a part in her getting the CC gig.
