Kathryn @ Toyota Race Training – March 2007

toyota_training_16The start of a new season raises thoughts of the prospects it brings.  All the changes to come.  So many possibilities.  The sights, the sounds (or lack of), the smells.  The ugly noses!

What?!?  Spring?  No, I meant the 2014 season of Formula One that kicked-off in Melbourne, Australia,  the weekend before last.  It’s a new era for the sport with massive technical changes signalling a move towards more advanced power-trains to increase the relevance to road cars.  And ugly noses.

Naturally when considering the opening of a new fight for the F1 World Championship (and very much NOT the ugly noses) one’s mind turns to Kathryn.  No?  Just me then?

Seven years go (that’s 2007 for those thinking about taking their socks off at this point) Kathryn was invited to take part in a Pro/Celebrity Race which features at the Long Beach Grand Prix each April.  The event is backed by Toyota and is run to raise money for the Racing For Kids charity which supports children’s hospitals in the area.

toyota_training_16March 17th was where those taking part that year met for initial training in handling a car on a race track.  With Kathryn were tennis legend Martina Navratilova, X-Games star Dave Mirra, actor/singer Joshua Morrow (The Young And The Restless), ‘model’ Kendra Wilkinson, actress Kelly Hu (Arrow), actress Aisha Tyler (Friends), radio personality Robin Quivers (The Howard Stern Show), film director George Lucas (Star Wars), and actress Emily Procter (CSI: Miami).

The training was done at the Willow Springs International Raceway in California using the same Toyota Scion tC cars that were used in the race.  The Scion range is only sold in North America, though in some cases the cars are available elsewhere in the world under different names.  The front engined, front wheel drive Scion tC was the model used for the Pro/Celeb races from 2006 to 2012 and has been replaced by the FR-S (aka the more racey rear wheel drive Toyota 86/GT86/FT86).  If you want to you can follow in Kathryn’s wheel tracks without even leaving your sofa as the Willow Springs circuit features in the PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6.  The Scion tC doesn’t.  George Lucas has a history with the track.  No, it wasn’t used for the podrace in SW: Episode 1, it is where he made one of his first films: 1:42.08.  Also, the British TV show Top Gear filmed a segment there in 2013 which saw the presenters chased by aeroplanes.  Silly boys.

The 2014 Long Beach Grand Prix is due to take place on Sunday the 13th of April.  This year the likes of Adrien Brody (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), Lilly Rush’s half-brother on Cold Case Brett Davern, and Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) are getting behind wheel for charity.

Sartorial elegance was not the order of the day but Kathryn still looked adorable as further shown in 12 new photos from the training day.  We also have 2 small videos.  One is brief interviews with some of the guest drivers.  The other is just general footage from the day, which doesn’t noticeably feature Kathryn until the very end.  They’ve all been added to the existing set in the KM UK Gallery.

Kathryn @ CDG Awards – Feb 2005

cdga_03From the slightly ridiculous to the sublime.

The KM UK time machine has got stuck in 2005.  The TARDIS was always rather temperamental so why should our KMARDIS (no?) be any different.  It must be too much water in the works, or something.

For this latest hit of nostalgia we move on the 7th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards held on February 19th, 2005.

Now, I can’t claim to know about these things but I get the impression that Kathryn’s outfit (as so wonderfully modelled by her on the left) is the sort of dress that little girls dream of.  A real fairy princess look.

I do feel that I can, however, speak for slightly older boys and say “we likey!” 😛

As much as I hate being a pedant (OK, I love it) but aren’t the costume designers nominated for their work on TV and in films?  In that case doesn’t it seem odd that all actresses turn up to the event in designer outfits and not the costumes being honoured?  It would make for a very different red carpet if they did.  Kathryn certainly never wore that outfit on Cold Case.  I’d definitely remember that!  Best.  Episode.  Ever!

The next CDG Awards is due to take place this coming Saturday (22nd Feb).

2 large and one small photo, and 3 videos, of Kathryn attending the CDGAs in 2005 are now in KM UK the Gallery.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – January 2014

tracie_thoms_001_430x180It’s only January and we’re already catching up with the work of the other Cold Case cast members in KM UK’s regular segment I call the CCCC-up.

Lady fighting movie Raze; which stars Zoë Bell (stunt woman on the likes of Grind House), Rachel Nichols (Alias), Sherilyn Fenn (Boxing Helena), and Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC); was released in some theatres and on VOD services (Amazon and iTunes for example) in the USA back on the 10th of January.  It may be available in other territories as well.  As far as I can tell the UK is not one of them.  Amazon UK is showing a DVD release planned for mid-June 2014.  Directed by Josh C. Waller (McCanick), and also starring Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Rosario Dawson (Sin City), is about a group of kidnapped women forced to fight each other to the death in order to save their families members.   Even in that small collection of names there are lots of links.  Rachel was in Resurrecting The Champ with Kathryn.  She is also in McCanick by Josh and with Tracie.  Rosario was in Rent with Tracie.  It’s not what you know… :-)  As reported previously, depending on where you are in the world McCanick (Cory Monteith of Glee‘s last work) is either out already on DVD/VOD, or months away.  Germany gets a DVD première February.  Already on VOD in the USA, the DVD is due in May.  When did these things get so complex?

Kathryn Actually @ The SAG Awards 2004

sag_arrivals_01Hello…

HELLO!

Ah, hello.  You’ve finally dragged your eyes away from the image on the left then…?  You’ve gone again haven’t you?  Damn it!  I knew I shouldn’t have mentioned it.  It is rather captivating though isn’t it?

As promised earlier this week here is an update for the SAG Awards itself in 2004.  It was, as previously discussed, held in late February of that year.

This was Kathryn’s first appearance at the the SAG Awards, which was first held in 1995.

The photo above gives one of the clearest views of Kathryn’s tattoo we’ve seen.  As you no doubt know, although the figure looks like a superhero he is a representation of Kathryn’s late friend, mentor and manager Elliot.  It is not, as the co-host from the Latin American chat show Ya es 1/2 dia en China suggested, “buzz light”.

Along with 22 more red carpet photos we also have some small shots of Kathryn presenting the award for best actor in a comedy.  Her co-presenter is Mark Harmon, star of CBS (which also broadcast Cold Case) drama NCIS and co-star with Kathryn in the movie Never Let Her Go.  And, we have 3 short red carpet videos, including a brief interview.  All that good stuff can now be found in the KM UK the Gallery.

I must make special mention of Alexia of Emilia Fox Online for providing me with the wonderful image above.

Kathryn @ People’s Choice Awards – Jan 2004

peoples_choice_28Less than two weeks into the new year and ‘awards season’ is already in full swing.

Last week it was the People’s Choice Awards.  Any idea who casts the votes in that one?

And just yesterday it was the Golden Globe Awards.  That really is an odd name for an award.  The golden statue idea was taken and the best they could come up with in a brain-storming session was ‘balls’?  I guess the genre needed some became Oscar is a more “Action Man” than action man if you know what I mean.

Congratulations to all the winners so far.  Looks like Sandra Bullock is going to need a bigger mantlepiece by the end of March.

Still not even a nomination for KM UK in either event.  Never mind, we’re holding out for the big one anyway:  [insert name of obscure award here]

Rather than look back at Kathryn’s attendance of the 2014 People’s Choice Awards (because she didn’t as far we know) we’re going to get in our ‘take a ride down invoked street’ machine (which may or may not look like a piece of street furniture) and travel back 10 years to… hang on, I’ll need to take my shoes and socks off for this one…

Yes, of all the PCAs that Kathryn has attended the 2004 was… probably the first of them.

To add to existing collection the 2004 PCA album in the Gallery has been updated with 16 more photos (inc. 2 v.large), a red carpet video and 2 awards presentation videos.
