2Br/1Ba Becomes Roommate Wanted, Gets Release Date

The movie up to now known as 2Br/1Ba (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom; the description of an apartment) has undergone a name change to Roommate Wanted prior to its newly announced release date of the 19th of May.

The launch will be on DVD and video on demand service and will receive the US ‘R’ rating for content.

Roommate Wanted will be available on DVD for the suggested retail price of $19.98.

Janie is an ambitious student who dreams of a better life. Dee is a gorgeous socialite who dreams of a rich husband. They’re already not the best of friends…or the best of roommates. But when Janie gets the opportunity of a lifetime, Dee becomes the roommate from hell as she desperately tries to destroy Janie’s life.

2 Br/1 Ba To Be Released In Late 2014

It’s been quite a long time since we last had any news about this project.

Filmed towards the end of 2012 2 Br/1 Ba (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, the description of a dwelling) has been looking for distribution ever since. The last item KM UK published on this on the discovering of a couple of teaser trailers back in October 2013.

In the past 24 hours news has broken that the film, starring Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) and Spencer Grammer (Greek), has been picked up by Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment for distribution later this year in the domestic (i.e. the USA) market. No word so far on other territories.

2 Br/1 Ba is a drama about two roommates (Alexa as Janie and Spencer as Dee) who one day have a very destructive disagreement. Kathryn has a supporting role as Olivia Morgan, exact details of her relationship with the two co-habitees is not know.

Congrats to all involved. We look forward to finally seeing the film and KM UK will certainly bring you more news as and when we can.

2 Br/1 Ba Teaser Trailers

A little over a year has passed since we first heard about the film 2 Br/1 Ba, and slightly less since they finished filming it. In the intervening period things have gone a bit quiet on the 2 Br/1 Ba front. Those involved in the project have been very busy though.

Lead actress Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) has seen the release of Machete Kills, the follow-up to Robert Rodriguez’s Machete. The original Machete film was based on one of a number of fake trailers for movies seen in the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino film Grindhouse, which also starred Cold Case‘s Tracie Thoms. The Machete character, as played by Danny Trejo (From Dusk Till Dawn), first appeared in the kids film Spy Kids which starred Alexa Vega and was directed by Robert Rodriguez. Phew! Is anyone following this?

Co-lead actress Spencer Gammer (TV show Greek) on the other hand has done more TV work with a guest role on CSI early this year and new for autumn 2013 NBC drama Ironside. Based on the long-running TV show from the 60s and 70s, starring Raymond Burr as a wheelchair-bound detective, the new Ironside has had a very short run indeed. Just last week the network cancelled the show after only three episodes had aired. I understand that one more will be shown this week before the show is replaced by repeats and a new programme in January.

Richard Riehle (Office Space) continues to be the hardest working man in Hollywood with far too many recent and upcoming projects to mention here.

But why single out those three? you ask. Good question. Because all of them can be seen in two short teaser trailers for 2 Br/1 Ba now available in the KM UK Gallery. Sadly, other than her name being shown towards the end of each 40 second long piece Kathryn does not appear. I’ve posted them because they give you some ideas as to the content and style of the film.

While we’re on the subject of those involved in 2 Br/1 Ba we’ll cover a couple of others.

2 Br/1 Ba Producer Tenille Houston (She Wants Me) starred in the much talked about film The Canyons. Perhaps ‘notorious’ is a better word for it as the off-screen antics of star Lindsay Lohan was making headlines throughout filming.

Co-producer Kristen Ruhlin (She Wants Me and banner image) has also had a busy time of late. She got married to this film’s director Rob Margolies earlier this year. Thanks to a new podcast interview with Austin Mitchell (for English people of a certain age: not that one) for his Broken Legs podcast we’ve learnt that they are expecting their first child together in December. Congratulations all round to Kristen & Rob.

In the interview (available HERE on iTunes, 2 Br/1 Ba is mentioned in the last 10 minutes of the lengthy chat) Kristen mentions that they are currently looking for a buyer for the film. KM UK will, of course, let you know more when we can.

Apartment Looking For Resident Band

Feeling musical? Know someone that is?

Well, perhaps they can get their work showcased in a feature film.

With her co-producer hat on Kristen Ruhlin (She Wants Me) put out a call on Facebook last Friday (4th January 2013) for singers, musicians and bands to contact her. Kristen and her fellow producers are looking for music for the soundtrack of the movie 2 Br/1 Ba.

Comments made by Kristen on the Facebook update include additional contact details. There is no deadline mentioned but the film is still listed as being released this month…

As you know Kathryn has a special guest role in the genre-defying film, which stars Alex Vega (Spy Kids) and Spencer Grammer (Greek) as feuding flatmates.

One More 2 Br/1 Ba On Set Photo

As some of you have already spotted, yesterday (or was it the day before? damn timezones) the official Facebook page of the upcoming feature film 2 Br/1 Ba got a few extra tenants. Tenants in the form of hundreds of on set/behind the scenes photos that is.

In amongst the multitude are a few photos of Kathryn on the set during her day’s filming back in September. Regulars to KM UK will recognise them all. Except one. The one you see above.

Eight of the nine photos on Facebook formed the basis of a wonderful set of exclusives we ran in late October (here and here). Despite KM UK having that 9th image at the time, it was not posted. We’ve been waiting for an appropriate time to correct that ever since.

Now the cat’s out of the bag it seems right to add the remaining (not so exclusive, but a lot bigger) image to the Gallery.

2 Br/1 Ba, starring Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) and Spencer Grammer (Greek), is currently scheduled for a January 2013 release. Alexa and Spencer play Janie and Dee, roommates in the titular 2 Br/1 Ba apartment. What happens between them is not entirely clear at this time but the photos on Facebook give some intriguing clues. Kathryn is Olivia and appears in only a few scenes but they are said to be significant.
