KM UK Xmas Message 2016

page_left_blank_430x180

I like to headline the annual KM UK Xmas message with an appropriate image or two.  An illustrative representation of the year gone by.

Errr… it’s been a bit of a quiet one.  Whilst so much was going on in the rest of the world (much of it probably best not discussed here), we Kathryn Morris fans were left largely bereft.

Join us as we look back at 2016 in the world of KM UK.

January got us off to a strong start though with a brand new sci-fi-ish drama series for the US network USA Network starting.  Kathryn was set to have a recurring guest starring role as we found out in the summer of 2015.  Colony brought Lost star Josh Holloway back together with Lost producer/writer Carlton Cuse.  Aliens have taken over the Earth.  Unknown numbers of humans have perished as the new rulers corral those left into city sized ‘blocks’ surrounded by huge walls.

Colony_S01E04_still_002It looked like we would get to see Kathryn sooner than expected as she appeared in a promo trailer for episode two shown after the première outing.  Sadly, our hopes were dashed.  A few of Colony’s ‘coming next on…’ videos were misleading like that.  We had to wait until the 4th episode in early February for Charlotte to make her entrance.  Quite the impression she made too, with some us left sitting rather uncomfortably as a result  😉

Charlotte was an socialite art collector married to Adrian Pasdar’s (Marvel Agents Of Shield) politician.  I say ‘was’ because she was caught hoarding some paintings for herself and not handing them over to the creatures in charge as she was supposed to.  Last we saw her she was being dragged off by the fuzz.  She probably met her end, one way or another, but it is possible she lives on at the mercy of the human race’s new masters.  There has been no news so far on Kathryn returning for season two amongst the other cast announcements.

Kathryn’s role in Colony was oh-so brief in just a few scenes spread across three episodes.  Her character did help give a feeling for the haves and have nots in the society.  You could look at it as an allegory for sections of real life, albeit with even those in power fearful of those above them.  Still, it was nice to have Kathryn gracing our small screens again.

roommate_wanted_dvd_3d_001News broke in April of a possible film role, albeit a likely small one.  Production was said to be under way on the teen drama You Get Me starring Bella Thorne (Shake It Up!), Halston Sage (Bad Neighbours), and Nash Grier (The Deleted), when further casting were revealed.  Named alongside Jennifer Esposito (NCIS) there was Kathryn.  The release date for the film has been pushed vaguely into next year and there has been no further news on Kathryn’s involvement.

A project we featured quite heavily last year as part of our birthday celebrations (Exclusive video and everything!) made a few more appearances on these pages this year.  The DVD/Blu-ray of the drama Roommate Wanted was let out of the house in a few parts of the world.

blu-ray_box_003Around the same time that Charlotte started chewing scenery the western horror film Bone Tomahawk was in cinemas on general release in the UK.  Just in time for Valentine’s Day.  How sweet.  Or should that be ‘cannibalee’?  It had taken its time getting ther after featuring in film festivals since the première the previous autumn.

Bone Tomahawk DVD and Blu-ray release news cropped up several times through 2016 culminating in the UK Netflix release just last week.  Does it feature in your Xmas stocking or ‘best film’ list this year?

Against all the odds the short film The Coin managed to continue making its presence felt in 2016.  The 9-minute stocking filler was at least two more festivals during the year.  Writer/director/producer/friend of the site Fabien Martorell has largely moved on now to doing much the same with The Coin‘s unrelated follow-up short Unbelief, as well as making music videos.

There was some Cold Case news.  The Japanese TV network WOWOW, which has been broadcasting the original version for years, made their own local one.  It is called Cold Case: Shinjitsu no Tobira (the subtitle meaning something like ‘doorway to the truth’) and was announced in April.  It was first broadcast a couple of months back in late October.  The story lines are said to be new but the overall tone of the show is retained with Japanese versions of each of the squad members we know and love, yes even that one!  :-)

As far as I can tell Kathryn made no public event appearances all year.  We’ve not had complete blank like that since records began in 2000.  Even in 2015 there was one.

This year has been a trying one many reasons.  Let us hope that things improve for 2017, difficult as it may be to believe based on the trend of recent years.

Happy Xmas to all our readers.
