Cold Case Cast Catch-up – July 2013

tracie_thoms_001_430x180Since starting these regular CCCC-up updates it is clear that one person tends to dominate them: Tracie.  The sheer number of differing projects she takes on, especially compared to her fellow Cold Case alumni, makes it unavoidable.

Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in Cold Case), or as we’re going to call her this month, the Award Winning Tracie (AW… T :-) ) has been a busy girl again.  She started the July with a trip to Aruba in the Caribbean.  It’s a tough life.  She was there with actress and stunt performer Zoë Bell (Alias and Django Unchained) promote the Raze movie that seems to have been around for so long now without an actual release.  Zoe will be known to some of you, even if you don’t realise it, as Xena: Warrior Princess.  Zoë was the stunt double for Lucy Lawless.  This means that Zoë worked with Kathryn during her two episodes as Najara.  Zoë and AWT spent an evening on a beach in Aruba giving stunt lessons to festival attendees.  A chance to get their own back at some film critics me thinks :-)

Next stop for AWT was Vegas for the town’s film festival to further promote Raze.  She was not able to stay until the end of the event.  She should have done as she won the Best Supporting Actress award.  Zoë also won an award, the Female Indie Icon.  Congratulations to them both.

Staying with AWT, Raze and film festival theme little longer sends us even further north to Montreal.  As we go to press the Fantasia International Film Festival is going on.  It is long-un, starting on July 18th and running all the way through until the 7th of August.  On 2nd August Raze gets it “international premiere” at the event.  It is unlikely that AWT will be in Canada as her one woman (plus a bloke) show “Seasons” gets a two day run in LA starting on Sunday (28 July 2013).

As we reported last month Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) has an upcoming Imagen awards in August.  In three weeks time in fact on the 16th.  He’s up for the Best Television Actor award for his role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.  The other nominees are Benjamin Bratt (Private Practice), Guillermo Diaz (Scandal) and Jon Huertas (Castle).  Recent Tweets by Danny suggest that filming for L&O:SVU‘s 15th season has started in the past couple of days.

Next up we get a 2-for-1 deal.  John Finn (Lt. John Stillman in CC) and Liz W. Garcia (producer and writer on CC) reconnected in Liz’s directorial début The Lifeguard..  It is actually a remake of a 1976 film (just called Lifeguard) starring Sam Elliot (The Contender) and Anne Archer (Fatal Attraction).  As you can guess the sexes of the lead roles are reversed.  The older man/younger woman scenario would probably not go over too well these days.  The new film premièred at the beginning of this year and has been at a few festivals since then.  At the very end of this month it is due to be available (presumably in the US only) via VOD systems.  Similarly, late in August should see a limited theatrical release.  DVDs are said to follow in early October.  The Lifeguard stars Kristen Bell (who KM UK tried to make a Cold Case cast member back in 2010 :-) ) as a disillusioned journalist returning to her home town, where she stars an inappropriate relationship with a much younger man.  John has, what is almost certainly a relatively small role as ‘Big Jason’  Kristen is currently filming a Veronica Mars movie after a very successful Kickstarter campaign raised nearly three times the requested US$2 million.

And lastly this month we will make a quick mention of another key person behind the scenes on Cold Case: writer and producer Veena Sud.  Her show following CC has been The Killing, based on a Danish drama, is nearing the end of its 3rd season in the US.  We’ll let any viewers out there let us know how it is going.

  • About The Killing: I still in shock. My dear God! Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman are the best duo on television right now. Just… Amazing. Good stuff, ya know.
