Cold Case Cast Catch-up – May 2012

promo_002Another quick round-up of what is going on in the careers of the non-Kathryn members of the Cold Case cast.

Quite a lot has happened since our last update in February.

As covered previously Law & Order: SVU has been renewed for a 14th season so Danny Pino (Scotty Valens on Cold Case) will be returning as Detective Nick Amaro for his second season.  The final episode of Danny’s first season aired last night (23rd May 2012) in America.  I won’t be doing any further screencaps of Danny in L&O:SVU as our friends at Danny Pino Online are doing a great job of covering it.

In the last of these type of updates I mentioned that the multi-talented Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller on Cold Case) was due to star in a big film due out in September.  A trailer has been released for that film, Looper, and it actually has Tracie in it.  It is a very brief of as she, a waitress in a diner, gives Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) an “oh la la”.  Whether Tracie’s role extends much beyond that is not known at this stage.  She is reasonably high up the cast list on IMDb and her character has a name: Beatrix.  Both of which are a step up from Safe House for her.  You can see a copy of the trailer HERE on YouTube.  Tracie appears at the 36 second mark.

At the beginning of this month another film, Meeting Evil, starring Tracie got a limited US cinematic and then a video on demand release.  Despite a star-studded cast (Samuel L Jackson and Luke Wilson) it has not been well received.  Which I’m very sure was not because of Tracie.

A month ago it was rumoured that Tracie that was headed back the CBS, the home of Cold Case, for a pilot movie based on Ayelet Waldman’s Juliet Applebaum character.  Tracie was to play her best friend.  A more recent report suggested the project, a TV movie acting as the pilot for a series, did not make it so the situation is not clear at this stage.  Also, the Bandwagon web series that Tracie was involved in will not be getting a 2nd (or 3rd depending on your point of view) season.  I gather than creative differences, not involving Tracie, were behind Emma Caulfield to stop further production.

Echoing Tracie in the Looper trailer, Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera on Cold Case) made an even shorter appearance in a promo video for the forthcoming TNT TV show Perception.  A sort of Numbers (maths genius) / Monk (needs a carer) / The Mentalist (consultant to law enforcement) / Ghost Whisperer (dead people, or in this case hallucinations, help out) / Castle (unlikely duo teaming up) cross-breed, Perception is about Dr Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack, Will & Grace) and FBI Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook, Josie And The Pussycats).  Kate enlists the help of Daniel, her old college professor, to help her solve crimes.  Jeremy makes his blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance at 1:12 in this video on YouTube.  It is not clear what role he has or whether it is a one-off guest role or as regular.  He could be an FBI agent on Kate’s team.

Earlier this month it was reported that John Finn (John Stillman on Cold Case) will have a guest on in the forthcoming second season of the USA network drama Suits.  John is due to appear as a company CEO in the 4th episode of the new season which debuts on the 16th of June.

The only news we have on Thom Barry (Will Jeffries on Cold Case) is that the previously reported Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D movie has had its release delayed until very early in 2013.  You’ll still be suffering from your New Year’s hangover if you go to an opening night screening on the 4th of January (USA & UK).

And finally, on the subject of the men in Lilly Rush’s life (as all those above, except Tracie were)…

These guys fall outside our normal news coverage but I thought I’d throw them in here for change.  Josh Hopkins (ADA Kite on Cold Case) recently found himself out of a job as ABC cancelled Cougar Town, then back in employment when the TBS network picked it up.  However, the situation might be complicated by the fact that Josh had signed up for a ABC comedy in the event that Cougar Town was canned.  On simpler note Bobby Cannavale (Eddie Saccardo on Cold Case) has a recurring role on Nurse Jackie currently showing in the US and has signed up to star in the next Woody Allen movie and the 3rd season of Boardwalk Empire.  He also recently completed filming on the movie Lovelace and will be back on the stage next year in a revival of The Big Knife on Broadway.

If you have any news about any of the Cold Case main cast then please let us know.

Its great to hear about the careers of the members from Cold Case. Now if only we could hear some acting opportunities for Kathryn and what she’s been doing, except for the Princess of Whales,as executive producer & her appearance at a premiere,Kathryn has all but disappeared from the acting scene.

Having been part of this industry, off and on,for more years then I’ll admit to,I’d hate to see Kathyrn be away for too long,it can and has been the kiss of death for many of good to great actors. The last thing I’d want to see Kathryn do is stay away any longer than she has already been and 2 years is a long time not to be seen.

I get why Tracie Thoms can get projects and all and I suppose I’ll reluctatnly give it to Danny Pino that he was pretty good on Cold Case and probably deserves SVU. But honestly, I agree. Kathryn Morris has to get back into the big acting stage. But easier said than done.

I wish people would realize how great KM is. :(

As one can see Kathryn has done a few projects recently but only time will tell or not whether it will lead to more significant kinds of roles, especially since the release dates aren’t until sometime in 2013!

IMHO,I think the industry does recognize that Kathryn has lots of talent but it seems Kathryn is focusing on being a producer and taking on smaller roles that don’t take long to shoot, while showing she can play different roles not just one dimensional one’!

Its ashame but when u have a successful TV show that goes for 7 seasons,as did Cold Case, its hard for producer’s,director’s & casting agencies, seeing u in a different type of role!

One actress, who comes to mind is Sally Fields, who the film industry stereo-typed and it took her a long time for the industry to recognize that she could do other roles, like Norma Rae,for which the industry awarded her Best Actresses of the Year!

I would love to see Kathryn achieve that recognition from her peers,I’m not even sure whether or not Kathryn was even nominated for an Emmy Award, for the role of Det. Lily Rush on Cold Case!
