Moneyball Could Be A Shutout for KM

Earlier this week some people in California were privileged to go to early previews of the movie Moneyball, which is not due for general release for another 6 months.  A few articles have appeared, including this one on Hollywood Elswhere, giving a few quick opinions.  NDAs probably prevent the posters going into too much detail but the general impression given is that the movie is very good.  In particular Jonah Hill, normally seen in comedic roles, has been singled out for praise.

Our main interest in the film, a certain Kathryn Morris, goes largely unmentioned in the pieces beyond stating that she is in the film.  That theme continues with comments I’ve had from a few of those that went to the special screenings.  The sad news they report is that Kathryn is hardly in the film at all.

We shouldn’t be too surprised that her role is small as the focus will be on the central story of the baseball team. Mrs Beane will always be very much on the periphery of that.  But it is disappointing news for us Kathryn fans though.  Of course, the version of the movie that was shown may not be the final edit, these are screenings to gauge audience reaction after all, so things could change.  The comments posted so far do suggest that it is a rare beast: “a sports movie about sports” leaving little room for domestic arrangements.

It may be that other scenes with Kathryn were filmed, there was certainly tabloid speculation on some, but didn’t make the edit.  We shouldn’t be too surprised if scenes written to round out the characters backstories are left on the cutting room floor in favour of pacing.  You often hear directors in DVD commentaries say how much they loved the deleted scenes and the actors’ performances in them but felt they had to remove them to keep things moving along.

I don’t like pitching less than good news like this, and I’m sure I speak for us all when say that we hope that it does not turn out to be entirely true in the final innings.  But it would be remiss of me if did not pass on the information I have to fellow fans.  It’s what this site is all about.

Thank you to those that stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park for me.

Oh yes, I can look up phrases used in baseball with the best of them :-)

I don’t think this has anything do with the phoney tabloid speculation, no one pays any real attention to the untrue madeup stories that both National enquirer and star puts out. It’s untrue, and celebrities do sue them right and left.

I think it’s very unfair for Kathryn to be snubbed in this movie, this could give her the break that she is in need for; like an oscar. Or a chance to really make it in having a movie career.

The snubbing has to stop, Kathryn is a very talented actress and I would hate if this movie when it’s released didn’t have her in it.

I guess they think she’s just better at acting on tv series than in movies. Well, Kathryn really hasn’t had any real success in movies, which others have and had lead roles in. She’s had more success on tv, with Cold Case.

Having her scenes being landed up on the cutting room floor sickens me. If they included those scenes perhaps this movie might be more successful.

Either way it’s sad news. Kathryn deserves to be seen, and not hide. She’s the most talented down to earth actress, people should really see that. Why does the fans only seem to see this??

Hardly in the flim, what is she just starting out?? That’s pathetic, I was really looking hoping that she’d be in a lot more scenes.

I hope it isn’t true because Kath’ deserves to be under the spotlight, as well . I mean, I would be very disappointed if the director deletes one of her few scenes…Since the end of Cold Case, we miss her a lot ! I really can’t wait to see her again,so It would be amazing if she could play in a new movie ( main character, why not?) or a TV show…Unfortunately, I heard that Sandera was on a bad way..then maybe we have a chance to get her back into our lovely Tv screen…

  • Please all remember that the piece is based on the tiny amount of information we have so far. We don’t know what was filmed, what is in the previewed film or will be in the final release. Even if Kathryn is in it just a small amount of time it may be exactly the they that was always planned all along. If so the Kathryn would have been fully aware that that was the situation and chose to take the role regardless. It must have been an interesting experience to work with new people and can’t hurt her career if she does a good job, which I have every faith she did.

It also can be based on one or two people. THe movies isn’t due to be releaed until September 23rd. This could just be a rumor, and not really true like those tabloid articles that were completely untrue about kathryn. Or some of these people really don’t bother to mention her because she to them isn’t a big star.

@Niiny- I don’t think Kathryn could be able to get a lead role in a movie. She’s not a big enough movie star to be able to land a role like that. I meant like people like Natalie portman etc.. She’s never had that experience, but also that her movie career never took her anywhere.

Most of her movies were low-budget or independent. Or she had a tiny role, if she was really good in movies her movie career would have already taken off by now. So the chances of her having the lead role in a movie is slim.

By all means I think she’s talented, but should just stick to Tv. We fans miss seeing her on tv every week.

I think she should just stick with tv, that’s what got her name known around the whole world. I didn’t know who she was until Cold Case premired.

Kathryn has more success on tv, than in movies. It’s the truth, personally she is more of a tv actress than a movie. Some actresses are good in both or one or another.

It would be nice to see her on tv.

I agree she’s perfect on TV , but she doesn’t seem very interested for the moment to play in a new TV show…So I hope she will compensate with one or two movies until she finds a new project like Danny P or Tracy T have already done.

@Niiny- She might be interested, you never know. Things like that are kept from the public, she might have a project but we aren’t aware of.

Kathryn has said that she was to produce things, so that’s what she most likely might be doing. I don’t think she’s working on being in another movie.

Look she was a success at movies that would be one thing, but she isn’t.
As for Moneyball, one site can say one thing but then again the reviewer might just be focusing on Pitt and not Morris. Some people don’t even know who she is.

. I think her talent should be on tv, both acting, producing and directing.

That will most certainly help her career and made her more a success, not to say that Cold Case was the ticket that made her a household name around the world. I didn’t know who she was until Cold Case premired almost 8 years ago.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Kathryn and wish her well in anything that she does; but I know that a lot of fans miss seeing her on tv. She’s great on tv.

Perhaps she’ll do some guest starring, like on DP’s new show or other shows. That couldn’t hurt, perhaps she could write one episode.

I would love to see her appear on Burn Notice, like Danny did last year.. Whatever she does, I wish her the best :)
