The Coin To Be At San Pedro Film Fest

poster_001I think you probably know how this goes by now.

san_pedro_international_film_festival_300x308A short while ago this evening director/writer/producer Fabien Martorell told us that his short film The Coin has been selected for inclusion in the San Pedro International Film Festival (SPIFF).  That’s it’s logo (or one it has used) on the right.

Before half the world gets excited I should clarify which San Pedro we are talking about.  A five second check on Wikipedia suggests there are dozens of places across the world called San Pedro, not surprisingly most of them are South America.  The San Pedro in question here is the one in the south of Los Angeles and incorporates the massive Port Of Los Angeles.

The third running of the SPIFF (which sounds spiffing when written like that!) is due to take place over three days in mid-October this year.  No more details on the screening(s) are available at the moment.  I will, of course, update you all when such information becomes available.

For your delectation the event’s official website is here.

Thanks again to Fabien for letting us know.

The Coin Breaks Free In The Big Smoke

portobello_free_film_festival_poster_511x485It has only been a week since I first posted about this event but it is worth a classic KM UK ‘quick reminder’, where ‘quick’ means the usual long ramble.

The short film The Coin starring Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) will be making a screening appearance at the Portobello Film Festival in London on Saturday (6th Sept).  It will be one of nearly 30 films shown under the banner ‘French Films’.  The collection is an eclectic mix ranging from 5 minutes to nearly 1.5 hours, and from the U (universal, i.e. suitable for all ages) to 18 certificates.

Based on my own guestimate and a Tweet by director/writer/producer Fabien Martorell’s the other day, The Coin could be shown at around 3pm.  I’m not sure if Fabien is basing his figure on something he’s been told, worked it out like me, or read it here.

A key element of the Portobello Film Festival that I managed to not really mention previously was the fact that it is free.  Free as in no charge, no tickets.  Age restrictions do apply of course, and no doubt all venues have capacity limits as well.

poster_001The 2014 Portobello Film Festival started last week and continues on until Sunday the 14th of September.  Events are held in venues around Portobello Road in the W11 area of west London.  Check the official website for more details.

If you will be attending The Coin screening please come back and let us know what you thought.  Friends of the site Tianna and Diane both wrote reports for KM UK of their experiences at local film festivals.  See them here and here respectively.

The Coin Hits Portobello, London

poster_001This one’s for the Brits and apologies for the comparatively short notice.

Last week director/writer/producer Fabien Martorell let it be known that his short film The Coin had been added as an official selection in the Portobello Film Festival.  Not surprisingly the event is based around London’s famous Portobello Road, in the even more famous Notting Hill area of the UK capital.

portobello_free_film_festival_poster_511x485The Hugh Grant/Julia Roberts rom-com Notting Hill was partly filmed there and gave a taste of second-hand clothes, books and antiques market stalls and shops that Portobello Road is best known for.

Fabien was, not surprisingly, keen to tell the world but, for what ever reason, the official website for the festival was more reluctant.  It was only last night that The Coin was added to updated lists of the various film programmes that will be on offer when the event opens later today (7pm, 28th Aug).  Note that the official programme (a downloadable PDF on the site) does not include The Coin, probably due to its late inclusion.

The short film starring Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Taxi) gets a screening on the 6th September at the Westbourne Studios (242 Acklam Road, W10 5JJ) in an 11 hour film programme starting at 12 noon under the title “French Films”.  Obviously The Coin‘s connection to France is Fabien himself.  If, and it is a big if, the mixed bag of short and long films were to be played in the order shown and the timings are correct then The Coin would make an appearance at around 3pm.

The Portobello Film Festival runs until the 14th of September.  More details can be found on the website here.

Any of you Londoners, or those in London, in the area the weekend after next?  If so, we love to hear about your experience.

Catch The Coin At SAFF On Sat

san_antonio_film_festival_430x140Our reporting on all things The Coin-related has been going at such a pace this year (impressive for a short film made in 2012) that to not mention it for a few weeks feels like a long time.

screenshot_001So, we must mention again the project’s march through the festivals forthwith.

This is just a quick reminder that Fabien Martorell’s award winning 8 minute long piece starring Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Stacked) will be screened on Saturday (August 2nd) at the San Antonio Film Festival.

As is normal for short films at festivals The Coin will be shown as part of a set of five at the City Base Cinema, Military Drive, San Antonio, under the title Block 2 Shorts.  Inspiring.

The other films on that bill include a dramas about a couple in the throws of a marital crisis and woman that may or may not being trying to help, a pair of astronauts who’ve been sharing a lot of personal space returning home, someone trying to get rid of an unwanted family member, and grieving widow visit by an angel.  The Coin is, of course, about neglected child meeting a homeless man.  Hilarity ensues all round.

The festival start on Monday and runs through to Sunday night.  Full details and tickets are available via the official website HERE.

If you get a chance to see The Coin at the SAFF please let us know.  We’d love to hear from you, just as we did from readers Tianna and Diane when the film was shown at film festivals local to them.

Kathryn @ CBS Stars Party – July 2004

dodger_stadium_001The last public appearance post I did was an update from 2004.  The most recent (though it shouldn’t have been) entry in the KM UK Summer Of HD 2014 series was the Cold Case episode Colors, which was about a baseball player in the 1940s.  In the post I made joking reference to the CC squad playing baseball.

This update neatly ties those two key elements together, apart from the bit about the squad playing baseball.  I’m not going to claim it was planned that way, but it worked out well.

On the 18th of July of 2004 much of the key cast Cold Case cast were promoting the upcoming second season.  They stopped off in the Dodger Stadium (that’s baseball right?) for the CBS Stars Party.  It was hardly an arduous trek as the venue is in central Los Angeles, close to Hollywood.

The photos, such as the one above, of Kathryn, Danny Pino, Thom Barry and Jeremy Ratchford make for the simplest game of Where’s Wenda? ever.  I know that sounds wrong but look it up and you’ll find I’m right :-)

It’s a small but perfectly formed update of 6 little photos added to The Gallery.
