Cold Case Cast Catch-up – May 2013

tracie_thoms_001_430x180We’re cutting it a bit fine this month! :-)

A week after our CCCC-up for April 2013 the US TV network NBC announced that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit would be renewed for a 15th season.  Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in Cold Case) will be continuing in his post-Cold Case role of Det. Nick Amaro.  The order is a for a full 22 episode season.  Last year the same thing happened and two more episodes were added later.  The pick-up for L&O:SVU‘s 14th season was much in doubt with lead actress Mariska Hargitay and the studio playing chicken in a chicken-and-egg situation to see who jumped first.  Without Mariska’s signature would the network agree to a new season?  But unless there was the promise of a new season why would Mariska sign?  That was sorted out but this time things were different.  The show was renewed while negotiations continued with Mariska.  On Monday (27th May 2013) it was announced that she would be returning.  Good news for all her and the show’s many fans.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – March 2013

001Following on from Monday’s Cold Case screencap catch-up this month’s CCCC-up is going to be another Tracie Thoms-centric one.  And for that we make no apology.  We thought we’d go with a photo of Thom Barry though to head the piece for a change.

However, before we get to the main course we’ll serve up the gentlemen as an amuse-bouch.

Texas Chainsaw 3D, Thom Barry‘s most recent movie role is due for release on DVD and Blu-ray in May in the US and UK, see your local stockists for details on the dates in your area.  The latest in a long line of ‘Chainsaw‘ movies this one’s excuse involves a woman visiting the town of the original massacre in the 1970s.  She’s gone to claim an inheritance which turns out to be a house with a dark secret.  It’s probably in the basement because that’s where sort of thing is normally kept, or the attic.  Either way the woman and her friends do a lot of running about and laughing…  No, not laughing, screaming.  It’s like laughing only with more blood.  Tania Raymonde (Lost and a recurring role in season 6 of Cold Case) was amongst the happy few flailing about in the dark.  Thom Barry was Sheriff Hooper, almost certainly named after Tobe Hooper the writer and director of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  Thom starred in an episode of the TV show Blue Bloods that aired back in mid-January.  Some how we missed that from the previous CCCC-up.  Bit of a C*C*-up.  He was an Assistant District Attorney (ADA) in the New York-set cop drama starring Donnie Wahlberg (Rizzoli & Isles), Bridget Moynahan (Gray Matters) and Tom Selleck (Magnum PI).  The episode was directed by David Barrett (aka One Of The Lucky Ones).

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – February 2013

001After such a busy January focussing on our headline act (that’s Kathryn) we managed to not do a post like this.  So, we’ll get one in early for February 2013.  It is time for another quick round-up of news on the other members of the Cold Case cast.

The banner image clearly wants us to talk about Tracie Thoms (Det. Kat Miller in Cold Case) first, and we wouldn’t want to go against its will now would we? :-)  At the end of January the ever-busy Tracie had a one night stand, that is to say that a feature film she starred in had a single night viewing across the US.  Further explanation is clearly necessary.  A 2009 (released in 2011) documentary film called One Night Stand: Creating A Play In A Day charting the creation of four musicals in just one day had a special nationwide showing in over 400 cinemas on the 30th of January.  Groups of writers, directors, composers and actors created, wrote and rehearsed short musicals.  After just 24 hours they had to perform their pieces.  Staying with Tracie, she recently had a guest starring role in the already cancelled CW network TV series Emily Owens M.D.  Thirteen episodes of the medical drama were produced.  All will be aired and that will be that.  Tracie was in episode 11, Emily And The Teapot.  The lead actress in Emily Owens M.D. is Mamie Gummer.  Daughter of a little known actress called Meryl Streep.  Mamie will next be seen in the movie The Lifeguard, which brings us to…

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – December 2012

danny_pino_002_430x180Everyone loves a bit more Pino.

Our final round-up of news about Cold Case cast members that aren’t Kathryn for 2012.

The long-running TV show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has had its current season extended by 2 episodes, bringing it to a total of 24.  That’s either a good show of support or a chance for the writers to give it a proper ending.  Which theory you subscribe to depends on your point of view.  Our understanding is that despite weak “lead ins” (i.e. the show on before SVU has a low audience count to carry over into SVU) the cop drama continues to do OK.  It is gradually fading but it is hardly surprising as the show is currently in its 14th year.  Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in Cold Case) continues as Detective Amero in SVU.  There are no signs of Danny taking on other film or television roles at the moment.

Last month’s CCCC-up included a reference to John Finn‘s guest-starring role in the hit drama series Homeland.  At the time the episode was just a few days away from broadcast in the UK, having been shown in the US just a few days before that report.  The part was not particularly large and the character of Rex Henning has not re-appeared in the episodes since.  John’s next feature film The Lifeguard by Cold Case writer/producer Liz Garcia is due to début at Sundance 2013.  The film festival runs from January 17th to the 27th.

We seem to have been talking about Thom Barry‘s role in the new Texas Chainsaw 3D movie for a very long time.  It was first reported here back in July 2011.  Back then the planned release date was October.  In early summer it was pushed back to January 2013, probably to avoid clashing with the many big releases in the autumn.  Now we are in the home straight, with just a few weeks to go for much of the world.

A couple of Thom’s co-stars in Texas Chainsaw 3D have caught our eye:  Tania Raymonde (Lost) and Richard Riehle (Office Space).  Tania guest starred on Cold Case for eight episodes in the latter half of season 6 as a PPD lab tech that Scotty became involved with.  Richard (the hardest working man in Hollywood) will be seen very soon in the film 2 Br/1 Ba, in which Kathryn has a small but pivotal role.

If you have any news about any of the Cold Case main cast then please let us know.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – November 2012

john_finn_001_430x180The boss is back.

Another update on the careers of the members of the Cold Cast cast that aren’t Kathryn.

John Finn (Lt. Stillman in Cold Case) was a guest star in the most recently broadcast episode (number 7 of season 2) of the hit US drama series Homeland.  At the moment we can’t comment on the exact nature of John’s role because it won’t be broadcast in the UK until Sunday (18th November 2012).  Cold Case creator Meredith Stiehm wrote this one, which may help explain John’s appearance.  As in many walks of life, in Hollywood it’s who you know.  Let’s hope that that extends to Kathryn sometime soon.  John’s other recent project, Cold Case writer/producer Liz Garcia‘s movie The Lifeguard starring Kristen Bell, is in post-production and due for release next year.  Stretching the scope of the CCCC-up to beyond breaking-point KM UK offers congratulations to Kristen Bell (she was the star of our first April Fool, that’s our excuse and we’re sticking to it :-) ) on her recently announced pregnancy.

Speaking, as we were, of Meredith Stiehm and again stepping outside of the normal CCCC-up bounds, Meredith’s adaptation of the Scandinavian drama series The Bridge continues apace.  Ted Levine (Monk) and Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo) have joined Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds) in the cast.  It is currently described on IMDb as a TV movie, so that probably means a feature length pilot has been ordered.  If it goes well then a series could be commissioned.
