An important aspect of KM UK which I hope all our readers appreciate is the fact that no story is truly closed off. We could return at any time to an item covered before. KM UK is constantly on the look out for new and updated content to bring you.
And so we go back to the New York Comic Con event from early October last year for something new and a couple of updates. Kathryn was at the event to promote the upcoming TV show Reverie.
First up is a video of the Reverie panel, where the key cast and crew discuss their project in front of an audience, by Mynda Bullock which has recently become available. You can watch the full video recorded by Mynda on YouTube HERE. Kathryn’s part starts about 10 minutes in. A small copy of just Kathryn’s segment, as video 8, is in the KM UK Gallery HERE (there are some screencaps from it too).
In the complete piece each of the cast (Sarah Shahi, Dennis Haysbert, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Jessica Lu, and Kathryn) and writer/producer Mickey Fisher and writer Tom Szentgyorgyi get to talk about Reverie. They describe their role and share some feelings about the show and its meanings.
The audio is not great quality so I’ll try and describe what Kathryn says. She is asked by the interviewer (sorry I don’t know who it is) about her character being, essentially, the villain of the show. Kathryn’s response is to say that her Department Of Defence employee has a lot of mystery and that the writers have created a show with a lot of emotion as well as being futuristic. She adds that despite her work Monica Shaw is human and even the bad guys have light and dark aspects, and that was very important to her attraction to the role.
To further gild this lily (see what I did there?) we have a couple of photos from the same NYCC event updated to new and improved super size. Catch them (numbers 6 and 38) in the Gallery HERE.
Reverie is due to start on May 30th.
A couple of weeks on from the New York Comic Con we still seeing content released from it.
The latest is a video of Greg Bernard of Entertain Lynx putting a few questions to Kathryn Morris and Jessica on the red carpet. The two ladies, ‘Jess and Kat’, were promoting the upcoming TV series Reverie.
It’s all a bit of silly fun. Jessica is clearly a bad influence on our Kathryn as she drops the ‘b’ word We don’t get to learn much about the show except that Kathryn’s DoD staffer Monica Shaw bullies Jessica’s software engineer Alexis Barrett.
Watch the video in full on YouTube HERE.
A small version of the video and a set of HD screencaps are now in the KM UK Gallery.
Reports from the New York Comic Con event of the previous weekend are starting to spring up.
As we know the cast of the new ABC drama series Reverie attended the ‘con’, took part in a discussion panel after a screening of the pilot, and also conducted individual interviews with members of the press.
The Bleeding Cool website has an article by Adi Tantimedh who, after a explanation of Reverie‘s premise describes it thus:
This is one of the more ambitious shows this season. It’s not another cop show or another soldier show. It’s about tragedy, loss, and empathy. It’s about the desire to escape from the trauma and sadness of life into a dream world, and the need to connect with humanity and emotion.
Adi goes on to give quotes from each main actor (Sarah Shahi, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Jessica Lu, Dennis Haysbert), creator Mickey Fisher, and producer Tom Szentgyorgi. Of course Kathryn is there too. Here is what she said about Reverie and her character Monica Shaw from the Department Of Defense:
I thought this show is a beautiful execution of a psychological thriller within this emotional landscape in the world of virtual reality. It’s not like a typical Sci Fi show where the emotions come later. It’s a tangible take on the power of virtual reality. And nobody does it better than Amblin. My character lives in a grey area of Light and Dark in the way the government uses things for their own purposes.
You can read Adi Tantimedh’s full piece HERE and a follow-up article on how the show is about finding a human connection HERE.
It’s 10 years ago this month that the film Resurrecting The Champ was first released in cinemas in selected parts of the world. Most of the rest of the world didn’t get to see it for months, or even years, later.
Ten years! That’s crazy!
RTC is about a struggling newspaper sports reporter (Josh Hartnett as Erik Kernan) looking for a story that will make his name. He then stumbles upon a homeless man (Samuel L Jackson only referred to as ‘Champ’) as who claims to be a long-thought dead boxing legend. Kathryn (you know, from Cold Case) plays Joyce Kernan, wife of Erik. She’s a successful journalist working at the same newspaper and mother to his child. Joyce is a few years older than Erik, which appears to be the cause of some issues for him.
Kathryn’s role in the film is relatively small but, as is often the case, it is crucial to the development of lead character as the story progresses
2007 puts us before Josh found his Penny, Dreadful or otherwise and Samuel L was yet to become the Marvel character Nick Fury in a 1001 projects. Or star in an unrelated film called Fury (aka The Samaritan). Dakota Goyo, the actor who played the Kernan’s son and the lucky so-and-so that got a red carpet hug from Kathryn at the première :-x, was 8 at the time. Since then he’s starred as the son of Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly in the robot fighting movie Real Steel, and sort of crossed paths with SLJ again as he was the young Thor in the first of that branch of the Marvel universe.
But enough of the ‘where are they now’. Today I’ve added an extended video interview Kathryn did for promotional material to the KM UK Gallery. A shorter section had been posted before. It is her answers to a series of questions describing Joyce and her role in the plot. Broadcasters often use segments of these videos when reviewing films.
As we’ve come to expect from Kathryn she gives detailed explanations in simple terms and has clearly worked hard to understand her character. Working previously with director Rod Lurie (Deterrence and The Contender), who once suggested Kathryn was his muse, most have helped with that getting that deeper knowledge.
Welcome back Kathryn. It’s great to see that smile again.
We are only a just over a week away from the release of the new thriller movie The Perfect Guy in cinemas in the US of A.
The stars Sanaa Lathan (Boss) and Michael Ealy (The Following), and to a lesser extent Morris Chestnut (Nurse Jackie), have been hitting the publicity trail, with various interviews and appearances. Not surprisingly, based on her small role, Kathryn has not been involved so far.
However, Kathryn has, along with the other key cast members, done a small interview as part of the released publicity material, or Electronic Press Kit, common for modern releases. And we’ve got it for you today.
In the Gallery you’ll now find a copy of the video and a set of screencaps taken from it (example above).
