Not So Golden Globes – Maybe Next Year

To quote J. R. R. Tolkien, himself misquoting Shakespeare, “All that is gold does not glitter.”

Sadly, Kathryn was not the glister amongst the many stars of screens both small and silver at the Golden Globe Awards last night.  Has Kathryn ever attended the event beyond those slightly tacky gift lounge things?

However, things could be very different next year.  Moneyball will be out by then.

The Social Network has garnered a lot of awards and award nominations and Kathryn’s representative/assistant (I dunno) said himself that Moneyball is due out in “The Social Network slot.”

As 2010 ended, 2011 started with various movie websites publishing their “ones to watch in the coming year” lists.  Moneyball featured strongly in many of them.  The presence of a certain William Bradley Pitt will inevitably lead to a global awareness of the film that it might otherwise struggle to achieve.  Despite being so far off the baseball movie is even being mentioned for awards success, or at least nominations.  The September release is seen as a key part of that.

Could Kathryn be in line for a nomination or two this time next year?  Who knows, at this stage we know so little about the nature of her role beyond playing Billy Beane’s (Brad Pitt) second wife it would be pure speculation.  Either way the release of the film will raise her international profile, which can only lead to more job offers.  I’m sure that everyone at KM UK wishes her well with this new phase of her career.

I’ve posted links to a few of those “ones to watch” lists after the jump.

I really hope she gets a nomination next year. She deserves it, plus it will be her first golden globe which is a good thing for her career :-)

This is why I was glad that Kathryn is in Moneyball. The storyline, Co-starring with Brad Pitt among other names. Plus she’s a terrific actress :-)

I’m not into baseball. I think it’s one of the most boring sport disciplines. So Moneyball isn’t really a movie I’m waiting for. But probably I will see it because of Kathryn. Although I’ve read somewhere the her role is very small. Her character doesn’t even has a name name, she’s always called 2nd wife.

I’d really love Kathryn to receive a main role in a a good movie. I think she deserves it as she’s a great actress.

@@CCfanka- Her Character’s name in this movie is ” Tara Beene,” there are several sources that say that. Her role is actually bigger than we thought, judging from what we saw this summer.

Moneyball is what I’m waiting for, I think it’s going to get a lot of attention; especially Kathryn. All the movies that are coming up, I think this one is going to really help her career big time

As much as I too want her as the lead role in a movie, it’s a longshot. I think personally Kathryn does better on tv than in movies. She’s been more successful. I do wish her the best in anything that she does.

It would be really nice if her role wasn’t so small as I’ve read somewhere. Then I would definitely watch this film. What have you seen in summer? I only heard gossips about her and Pitt and nothin about her role.

The problem with TV is that actors who play one role for a long time, have often problems with finding new roles both in movies and other TV shows. Now for lots of people Kathryn=Lilly. It’s not surprising since her portrayal of Lilly was awesome. But I also wish her all the best in the future.

        • I think IcyWinter is referring to shots we saw last summer of Kathryn acting with Brad. You can see details HERE. It might be worth you going back through the various Moneyball related posts on this site to see what we know so far, you can list them HERE.

We don’t know much about Kathryn’s role. The real Billy’s second wife is called Tara. Whether that will be used in the movie or not we don’t know yet. One of the other major characters will not be named after the real person after he asked for it not to be used.

The film has been through several major script re-writes, some of which can be found online. The 2nd wife did not appear very much at all in one of them and not at all in the other. They are not the final version that was filmed though so we really don’t know how big Kathryn’s role will be.

Thank you for the reply. I will look through the older posts.

            RichE,

I guess we found out that no matter what role she played in the movie they decided to leave her scenes on the cutting room floor just like what happened in the film she did for Speilberg A.I.

I just can’t imagine that her deleted scenes In Moneyball were not worthy of being left in the final cut especially after she was seen in the film at the various film festival that it was shown at! Due to whatever the reasoning was I have boycotted seening this film altogether!

I’m sure even tho Kathryn must be very disappointed in the outcome, Sony Pictures & Mr.Pitt paid a hefty sum of cash to her when she signed on to do the project! I thought this film could have been Kathryn’s big break and would have put her in high demand as an actress for future bigger film projects IMO!

Speaking of which; Do u know if the “Princess of Whales” is in production yet? I’ve only been able to find the story that deadline.com wrote last year! I have a friend that works at 20th Century Fox, which its parent company Fox Studios TV will be producing the project! Has it been cast & has Kathryn changed her mind about acting in it?

Also, even tho I’m able to post my thoughts on here,I haven’t been able to access the Gallery! Am I doing something wrong? Let me know thx!

          • Hi again Finn,

As we’ve seen here on this site we know that Kathryn did play Tara Beane and that her 4 scenes did not make the cut.

I read somewhere that the dialogue in the restaurant scene (that appears as an extra on the Moneyball DVD) was used elsewhere in the film. Apparently Jonah Hill’s character says a lot of it. I’ve not checked that in any way.

Many scenes get cut from films for a variety of reasons. Ones often cited in directors commentaries are time and pacing. They need to get the film down to a certain length so some scenes get removed. If a character is not key to the story the removing them entirely simplifies things and helps keep things moving along. It is one less person for the audience to deal with

I hoped that Kathryn working with the likes of Brad, Aaron Sorkin and Bennett Miller, and for Sony Pictures, would lead to other roles. So far we’ve seen no evidence of that. Perhaps if her scenes had made it to the final edit things would have been different.

As an aside are there any other actresses that have played the wife of Brad and Tom Cruise?

At the moment I know nothing more on “Princess Of Whales” (not to be confused with the Princess Of Wales of course) than you’ve read on Deadline or this site. If your friend can find out anything then please get them to contact me :-)

I doubt that Kathryn will be acting in the show if it gets made.

Regarding the Gallery please contact me via the Contact form and we’ll deal with that privately. Send me the details you used and I’ll look into it for you.
