Minority Report – Sunday on BBC1

still_001I don’t need to be a future seeing ‘Pre-Cog’ named Agatha to see something lovely in the future for UK TV viewers this coming weekend.  Or do I….?  No, I just need to be a TV guide reading Pre-Bed person in England  :-)

This coming Sunday night (16th March) BBC One gives us it’s annual airing of the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi action movie Minority Report.  Last shown by ‘Auntie’ in May 2013, it starts a little late for those of us with jobs to go to in the morning and even later if you live north of the border in Scotland.  Is this why you want independence, so you can schedule Kathryn Morris movies when you want?  :-)

Statuesque (because he’s at least as big as some statues such as the Oscars) Tom is John Anderton, a cop in a future with a set of three people (the ‘Pre-Cogs’) blessed with an ability to see visions of crimes yet to happen.  It’s the job of John and co. to stop those crimes before they happen.  They obviously altered the laws in this crime-free utopia to make incarcerating innocent people (they’ve been stopped from committing the crime after all) OK with everyone.  They couldn’t possibly allow such things to happen in the present…

Kathryn stars as Lara, the estranged wife of John.  That’s her above with the short brown hair.  The reason for their separation, the loss of their young son to a child snatcher, is what drove John to take this job.  John needs help after being framed for murder by the very system he’s working for.  He turns to his ex.

First released in 2002, Minority Report pre-dates Kathryn’s work on Paycheck and Cold Case by a year.  Co-starring Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Samantha Morton (In America) and Colin Farrell (In Bruges), it became a hugely successful film around the world with box-office takings of over $300m.  KM UK has a comprehensive set of HD screencaps and promo image above in the Gallery already.

Sunday, BBC One at 23:25 in England and Wales.  Delayed by local sports coverage the Scots will have to wait another 55 minutes.  Full details on the BBC website here.

The Last Castle

the_last_castle_deleted_scene_020Ideally this post would be another of KM UK’s “Media Alerts” where I post about upcoming broadcasts of Kathryn’s work on British TV, like last week’s posting about A.I. Artificial Intelligence being on over the weekend.

The Rod Lurie (yes, him again) directed film The Last Castle gets its first airing in 18 months on the BBC here in little ol’ England (and Wales and Scotland) this coming Friday (13th Dec 2013) at the ungodly hour of 23:50.  Details of the BBC broadcast can be found on their website.  As KM UK has not covered The Last Castle in its four and a half year history this is a good excuse to finally do so.

AI: Artificial Intelligence – Saturday BBC2

ai_10It has been a while since I posted a KM UK Media Alert, making other people in the UK aware of an impending Kathryn related TV broadcast or such like.  It has been even longer since one of them was about AI: Artificial Intelligence.  Four years have passed since the British Broadcasting Corporation has sent the film over the airwaves to our telly boxes.

Assuming the live snooker coverage doesn’t massively over run AI should be hitting the screen at 10:45pm on Saturday, that’s the 7th of December 2013.  Details can be found on the BBC’s website here.

AI: Artificial Intelligence was written (with others) and directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 2001.  Haley Joel Osment plays a highly advanced robot boy who wants to become real so his mother will love him.  He goes on a journey meeting various of strange characters.

Kathryn, unfortunately, only makes a very brief appearance in AI.  Shoes and socks off you can pretty much count the seconds on all your available digits.  There was, apparently, more that got left on the cutting room floor.  Teenage Honey, as the character is called, is a presenter at the Flesh Fair, a sort of circus where humans watch robots being destroyed in a gladiatorial-style show.

Screencaps and a video clip from the movie can be found in the Gallery.  At a later date I’ll cover the film more comprehensively.

The Sweeter Side Of Life Returns To UK TV

tssol_515The Sweeter Side Of Life returns to British television screens today and another fours times later in the coming week.

Movies/24 is showing TSSOL today (25 Aug 2013) at 5pm on it’s main channel and at 6 o’clock on its +1 channel.

Next Thursday (29 Aug 2013) sees a 9pm screening.  This time Movies/24 does not seem to fully understand the idea behind a +1 channel because it does not follow suit with a 10pm repeat.

3am on Friday morning is another scheduled showing, this time with a 4am +1 repeat.  Later on Friday Movies/24 changes the meaning of +1 to be plus 1 day and 1 hour with a 10pm screening of the film on their twin channel.

Movies/24 is available to Sky satellite and Virgin Media cable subscribers.

You can find more detail on The Sweeter Side Of Life in previous posts here on KM UK and comprehensive coverage in our Gallery.

The Sweeter Side On This Side Of The Pond

promo_009Looks like The Sweeter Side Of Life will be getting its first airing here in the UK this weekend.

I’d always assumed it would be the terrestrial station Five (aka Channel 5) that showed the film, they seem to have Hallmark and Hallmark-style movies on often, it is the cable and satellite only Movies/24 instead.

3pm on Sunday (7 July 2013) is appears to be the first showing.  Repeats follow on Wednesday night at 9pm, 3am v.late Wednesday night/v.early Thursday morning, and Thursday night at 10pm.  There is also a Movies/24+ channel which on initial inspection is a +1 hour version but according to the listings it is not that straightforward.  Often it shows different output.  Odd.

Those that have access can find Movies/24 on Sky channel 327 and Virgin Media station 419.

For those in UK that have neither cable nor satellite the American DVD is due for release in a couple of weeks.

Speaking of “the pond” happy 4th of July to our American friends.
