A few weeks ago I posted about how the name of Kathryn’s new production company, Revival House, had been “approved for publication” as a trademark.

Although every word of the piece was true, and still is, in light of new information the headline and tone was a little misleading. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I’m no expert (clearly!) in trademark law and should have researched the meaning of the phrase further before posting. Apologies for any confusion caused. Mea culpa.

To clarify the situation: a recent update in the process suggests to me that “approved for publication” actually means that the chosen name cleared basic checks to search for any obvious clashes with other organisations in the same field. That’s the “approved” part. The next step is “publication”.

A couple of weeks ago “notification of publication” was issued stating that the “mark” will be included in the Official Gazette, the weekly journal of the USPTO (United States Patent And Trademark Office) that details filed applications. This is done to allow for 3rd parties to raise issues. Any opposition has to be put forward within 30 days of the publication. It is the “speak now or for ever hold your peace” moment. Revival House will be include in the Feb 14th edition.

Being a fan of Kathryn is educational. Who knew?

For those interest in the details you can them on the Trademarkia website.

I know there isn’t much for us Kathryn fans to see but the discs will have at least one, almost certainly only one in fact, deleted scene that features her in the role of Tara, Billy Beane’s second wife. Previously KM UK brought you an exclusive preview of the included deleted scene with Tara and Billy sharing a meal at a restaurant. Billy is, of course, played by Brad Pitt. Kathryn certainly filmed other scenes that were also cut from the film, it does not look like these will be released. A great shame indeed.

If you are in the US and pick up a copy of the home entertainment version of Moneyball please let us know what you think. What did you think of Kathryn’s performance?

Moneyball has certainly proved popular with the viewers and critics alike, and it has been nominated for multiple awards. The UK release of the DVD and Blu-ray is set for the 19th of March.

Update: This is the 500th article posted on KM UK.

Just before Xmas 2011 the trademark for Kathryn’s new production company, Revival House, was “approved for publication.”

The trademark covers the use of the name by a company for “Entertainment, namely, production of television shows and motion pictures.”

All though the lack of this approval would not have prevented the usage of the name, hopefully this small step is a good sign for things progressing in this area. Fingers cross for more news soon.

The DVD and Blu-ray versions are now up for pre-order on the Amazon UK website (other online movie retailers exist) ahead of the March 19th release. There are even “special edition” versions listed that include a copy of the original book by Michael Lewis. At time of writing the prices for the ones with the book are the same as those without. Go figure.

No word yet on the DVD extras and whether they will include the restaurant scene starring Kathryn that we previewed here on KM UK just before Xmas. Often European versions suffer compared to their American cousins because they have more language tracks to fit in. Some extras get dropped to make space. The Blu-ray is more likely to be the same due to the higher capacity and the fact that it is region free.

Moneyball will be making headlines, not necessarily on KM UK though, in the coming months as we get into awards season. It has already received a nomination in the Producers Guild Awards, due to be announced on January 21st, and is likely to be up for Oscars.

The usual blurb: Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) challenges the system and defies conventional wisdom when he is forced to rebuild his small-market team, on a limited budget.

Update: DVDizzy has a review of the US DVD/Blu-ray release. It mentions three deleted scenes on the DVD. The first involves Philip Seymour Hoffman. The third is a sort of different ending. Their description of the second reduces it to “Billy on a date”. That’d be the scene exclusively previewed here on KM UK before Xmas with Brad and Kathryn in a restaurant. Way to reduce her role even further, from wife to “date”! The Blu-ray extras don’t sound like they include any more scenes involving Kathryn. Other reviews I’ve found echo all that.

As with the Twitter account and website I’ve been aware of this page for a few days now, nearly a week in fact. I’ve not seen any sign of anyone else finding it, which is surprising. I guess that that is about to change. Don’t forget to tell them we sent you For those keeping score that makes it 3-0 to KM UK, or is it 4?

The photo used for the Facebook profile (see left) is one of the set posted here yesterday, albeit slightly smaller and lower quality than one we brought to you, even in the larger of the two versions on there. This does strongly suggest that this is part of the same campaign, for want of a better word.

These are certainly interesting times to be a Kathryn Morris fan.

A link to the Facebook page is now in the menu on the right.

It appears that the Twitter account @Real_KMorris has been created by/for Kathryn. It could be fake but the avatar image used (see right) is a photo we’ve never seen before, lending it some credibility.

The Twitter account profile has a link to an official website, which currently just shows a holding page. The domain name has existed for nearly 4 months now.

DVD, Blu-ray and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack will be available of the movie that tells the story of Billy Beane’s (Brad Pitt) usage of statistics to improve the odds for the Oakland A’s baseball team.

The reported extras for the DVD include:

Blooper-Brad Loses It

Billy Beane: Re-Inventing the Game

Moneyball: Playing The Game

The Blu-ray version also adds:

Adapting Moneyball

Drafting The Team

Nothing there screams Kathryn’s scenes that were cut so we are left guessing for a little longer.

We know that Kathryn is not in the film in its released form. However, director Bennett Miller has discussed having shot a lot of additional footage that didn’t make the cut, and that it is likely to be used as part of the extra features on the home release. So far there is no news as to what the extras will be but hopefully this means we will finally get to see Kathryn’s scenes with Brad when the discs hit the shops.

Until now I had not heard of the DVDizzy site but it has apparently been around for along time (in Internet terms at least) in its earlier incarnation as Ultimate Disney and is highly regarded.

Moneyball is due to start showing in UK cinemas on November 25th.
